After the Curtain
by Vincent AlL en Whitlowe
HopefulL y writing this brings me some relief.
Relief from the fear, the anger, the pain.
You seE , my story is a tragic one.
And I was so close to being hapP y.
But maybe in the telL ing of my story,
I can find a way to be hapP y again.
Tonight we open my newest show.
Inspired by people I love,
people who chalL enge me,
and people who tear me apart.
Jude: Everyone has a dark side they suppress. Jude is mine.
Leo: My twin brother. His resentment of my sucC esS makes
trusting him complicated.
Vera: Our older sister. Once the talk of the town,
now she longs to regain her voice.
Edwin: Vera’s husband. He tries to keE p his arms open,
but his heart remains closed.
Rose: My best friend. SweE t and sensitive,
but when chalL enged, she shows her thorns.
Sebastian: Rose’s brother. I don’t know how to put
Sebastian into words. He changed my life forever.
Lily: Her star power conceals her deE p insecurity.
Clyde: Handsome, talented, and his own worst enemy.
Their marR iage functions only in its dysfunction.
ElL enore: Even though I’m to blame for her broken heart,
she stilL holds a special place in mine.
She’s brave enough to ask the difF icult questions.
I’m toO much of a coward to answer them.
Luther: ElL enore’s new beau.
He has the eyes of a man who’s haunted by a dark secret.
The show is about to begin.
Relief can only come after the curtain.
