Colter Wall
Colter Wall is a prairie-born songwriter from Saskatchewan, Canada. His
signature baritone vocal is paired with sparse, beautiful songwriting inspired
by artists like Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Emmylou Harris and Waylon
Jennings.
Wall’s inaugural EP, Imaginary Appalachia, made him a grassroots-buzzedabout
young artist (19 at the time) and evoked visceral reactions from
industry veterans, his musical heroes and peers, as well as a loyal and ever-growing fan base.
Pitchfork’s review stated that “Colter Wall is one of country music’s most exciting young
voices. His debut album is strange and stirring, rarely ever rising above a gentle rumble.”
Two years later, Wall recorded his self-titled LP in historic studio B in Nashville, Tenn. –
produced by Dave Cobb. And as his path got more interesting, Wall partnered the publishing
side of his music up with producer Rick Rubin. “The reason Colter Wall interests me so
much is Colter sings and writes songs in way seemingly lost in time,” says Rubin. “There is
an agelessness about him so unusual in someone so young.”
Both records are available from Young Mary’s Record Co. / Thirty Tigers.
