DEVOTIONAL DAY 1
DURING TRIP
Journal Your Response Below:
SEEING THE NEED
We are rst introduced to Nehemiah in the rst verse of the book that is
named after him in the Old Testament. He had a special job, which was to be
the cupbearer in the palace for King Artaxerxes. His job was simple, but very
dangerous; he must taste everything that the King would eat or drink before
it was served to him to see if it was poisonous. It was a position of immense
risk and loyalty, and it created a connection of great inuence and condence
between Nehemiah and the King.
However, one single conversation changed everything in an instant. Nehemiah’s
brother came to visit and Nehemiah asked him how things were going in
Jerusalem. The report was devastating. Nehemiah heard that the walls around
the city lay in ruins and that his dearly loved hometown’s gates sat charred and
burned to the ground. When he heard that the remaining Jewish survivors lived
in distress and reproach, Nehemiah wept for days. He also fasted and prayed. He
leaned into the God who would be attentive to each of his words.
Something powerful happens when we hear of a need and pray about it right
away.
Prayer has some wonderful ways to accomplish things that God has in mind.
Prayer brings the burden to our heart and deepens our ownership of a
need.
Prayer helps us quiet our hearts and wait for what God has in mind.
Prayer infuses a vision, enabling us to see what God wants us to do.
Prayer initiates the vision for us to get ready to act.
You are here this week because the Lord has a plan for you. You will be told of
many needs in the location where you are serving this week. We can’t wait to
hear reports of how your life, and the lives of each person you interacted with on
your trip, have been impacted.
