DURING TRIP
DEVOTIONAL DAY 6
Journal Your Response Below:
DEDICATING OURSELVES TO FULFILLING OUR CALLING
Today we read in Nehemiah 10:28-2 that Nehemiah led those who had rebuilt
the wall into a contract with God after their work (and celebrating and confessing
sins) was done. He didn’t just ask them to sign it, he led them by being the
rst one to sign it. The verses read like this, “Then the rest of the people - the
priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, Temple servants, and all who had separated
themselves from the pagan people of the land in order to obey the Law of God,
together with their wives, sons, daughters, and all who were old enough to
understand, joined their leaders and bound themselves with an oath. They swore
a curse on themselves if they failed to obey the Law of God as issued by his
servant Moses. They solemnly promised to carefully follow all of the commands,
regulations, and decrees of the Lord, our Lord”.
This was a huge commitment. They were going to be looking and acting
differently than their neighbors. They were committing to depending on God for
their needs. They had seen God at work in those past 60 days in ways that scared
their neighbors and enemies, and this would now call for a daily commitment
from all of them.
The same goes for you. You are going home as a changed person. Things won’t
look the same. You will miss the new friends you have made here. You have
spent a week looking and seeing God all around you. The mission trip of your life
begins today as you leave to go home to a new mission eld. You can take home
the things we have done this week and do them there. Go home to inuence
and impact the lives of your family, your friends, your neighborhood, your
community, all the circles of people around you. Be intentional every single day
to get into His Word. Love the person in front of you daily. Make a difference
through the way you live and love.
Our prayer for you: “Father God, we are so thankful for this person You brought
to serve with us this week. We pray You will continue to do awesome and great
things in their life as they go back to their home and routine. May the work that
you did in their heart this week keep returning to their thoughts, prayers, and
actions. May they see You, lean on You, and speak of You and Your work in their
life. Empower them to change their world as they depend on You. Have them live
a life on a mission. In your powerful name, we pray. Amen”
