Painted Elephants | Full Collection | 17
Once completed, the trimmed elephant
should look similar to this.
Next, trace the outline of the elephant
onto a piece of Heat & Bond, and then
carefully trim along the outline.
Match the elephant back to the Heat &
Bond outline, and iron to join the two
together. Trim away any Heat & Bond that
shows outside the elephant.
Next, cut a 19” x 19” square piece to be used for the front of the sham, and, laying a
ruler from corner to corner, find the center of the fabric.
Mark the center of the sham. (This mark will be covered by the elephant.)
Now, locate the center of the elephant.
First, find the vertical center line.
Do this by measuring from the furthest
point on the left (the trunk) to the furthest
point on the right (the tail). Then find the
middle (the black dotted line).
Next, locate the horizontal center line.
This time measure between the highest
point (top of trunk) and lowest point
(bottom foot). Then find the middle. This
is the horizontal center line (the new
black dotted line).
Where these two lines meet is the
center point. Mark this spot with a
straight pin through the elephant.
