Point Sebago opened
its doors to vacationing
families in the Summer
of 1970. Since then,
more than 250,000
families have chosen
us as their vacation
destination.
When Point Sebago was
originally envisioned,
the plan was to create
a campground with
hotel amenities
such as a restaurant,
bar, extensive
entertainment and
activities programs, and
rental travel trailers.
This was unheard of in
the camping industry.
In 1970 a campsite
rental cost somewhere
between $4.50 and $10
per night. Some of the
early articles written
about Point Sebago
questioned if campers
would pay such a “high
rate.” No one was
charging as much as $10
per night. If you wanted
lodging in one of the
travel trailers, it would
cost $ 26 per night. The
good ole days…..
In the early 70’s, the
staff of Point Sebago
consisted of 2 to 5
people year round and
50 seasonal workers.
Today, there are 40
year-round staff and
over 400 seasonal,
making it the largest
employer in the Lakes
Region area.
Point Sebago increased
its number of sites from
300 in 1970 to 500 in
1975. Along with the
new sites, we added
the very popular rental
“Prowler” travel trailers
which were in high
demand.
1984 and 1985 marked
the next major addition
to lodging options with
the introduction of 40
“Park Models.” The
Park Model opened up
a whole new market
for the so called
“Camping Family” who
really wanted more
comforts of home with
spacious rooms, full
size appliances, and a
regular bathroom with
a standard flush toilet.
All of these amenities
were luxurious
compared to the travel
trailer. Today we have
over 200 rental Park
Models on site.
In 1986 Point Sebago
purchased an
additional 500 acres
of land and embarked
upon an ambitious
expansion of the resort
which included an 18
hole championship
golf course and a 520
lot subdivision for
Resort Cottages. After
six years of planning,
construction began
on the golf course and
ownership areas. In
1994 the first ownership
lot was sold and in 1995
the first 9-holes of the
golf course were opened
followed by the second
9-holes the following
year. The Golf Course
has received great
reviews in the golf
industry and was rated
one of the top five
courses in Maine.
Point Sebago has
always been a leader
(207) 5 32 58-8000 • (800) 655-1232
in the Campground
industry. From the
very beginning, the
Activities program
has received a 5 star
rating from Woodall’s
Campground Directory
with over 75 activities
going on daily for all
ages. In 2000, Point
Sebago expanded
extensively into the
entertainment area by
providing “Broadway
Style” shows for its
guests. Performers from
around the country are
hired to provide live
shows for children and
adults.
Having finished
the Resort Home
development in
2016, Point Sebago is
exploring options for
the remaining 200
acres which have yet to
be developed.
