Imagine Museum’s works of art
illuminate the best of American creativity
and talent. The collection includes more
than 500 artworks, created by more than
60 American artists, spanning over the
last 55 years with the intention to grow
into the future. The works represent a
variety of techniques developed over
centuries, such as casting, blowing,
and flamework, as well as new digital
techniques created by Eric Hilton and Tim
Tate. The Imagine Museum’s Collection
gives the viewer the unique opportunity
of seeing the artworks from the early
pioneers to the contemporary glass
artists working today. The experience
will be both surprising and uplifting.
The Imagine Museum, a
new addition to the museums
in St. Petersburg, is set to open
January 23rd at 1901 Central
Ave. It offers two floors for
the public to view glass as a
medium of sculpture.
In 1962, artists Harvey
Littleton and Dominick Labino
created a furnace for melting
glass that was small enough
to fit in an artist’s studio.
This single act of innovation
gave birth to the American
studio glass movement. This
movement, led by Harvey
Littleton, Dale Chihuly and
Marvin Lipofsky, to name a
few, created the foundation
for American artists working
with glass.
Colbalt, Cloak and Dagger was
created in 2014 by Michael Taylor,
department head at the Rochester
Institute of Technology’s College of
Imaging Arts and Sciences.
Crazy Quilt Teapot was
made in 1979 by Richard
Marquis, one of the first
American artists allowed
to work in a Murano glass
factory in Italy.
