© Joe del Tufo – Moonloop Photography Iconic singer-songwriter John Gorka got his start at the famed Godfrey Daniels coffeehouse
in Pennsylvania in the late ‘70s. The New Jersey native soon became part of the “Fast Folk”
revival in NYC, joining such friends and peers as Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega and others.
In 1987, he joined the roster of respected Minnesota folk and roots label Red House Records.
Gorka has 14 critically acclaimed albums to his credit and has announced a new studio album,
True in Time, for release on January 19, 2018. Many well-known artists have recorded and
performed his songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Grif th, Mary Black and Maura
O’Connell. John has graced the stage of Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, eTown and has
appeared on CNN. His song “Where No Monuments Stand” is featured in the documentary
Every War Has Two Losers about activist and Oregon Poet Laureate William Stafford (1914-
1993).
John lives in Minnesota,and when not on the road, enjoys spending time with his wife and
children. He continues to tour, playing festivals, theaters and clubs all over North America
and Europe and will be appearing at the Folk Alliance International festival in February 2018.
