Meet The Artist
Sally Yoder bounded into the area
last year from Venice, Florida and
wasted no time in throwing herself
into the local arts community. She
works primarily in oil, but also
dabbles in watercolor and acrylic.
She will paint on practically
anything including canvas, paper,
wood, furniture, cars and even on
people. Sally loves to paint from
life as much as possible. It was
this love that led her to develop
the North Tampa Art League’s
Plein Air Group. “Painting with
friends is a whole lot more fun in
the fresh outdoors,” says Yoder.
Always one to explore creative potential, Sally suggested and now
heads up an art challenge
activity with members of
the North Tampa Arts
league whereby members
are given a subject or
theme and asked to complete
the project within one
month. It is most interesting
to see how each artist
approaches and interprets
the task in their varying
styles and mediums. Sally
also started the Community
Open Portrait Sessions (COPS) where she and fellow portraitists, of
all skill levels, strive to create a model’s likeness in a single sitting.
Sessions are held at New River Library on State Route 54, Wesley
Chapel.
Sally took second place in the 2017 Zephyrhills Art Club’s annual
show and has won numerous awards with her Venice area art associations.
She has exhibited her work in the Venice area and in local area
venues including the Carrollwood Cultural Center. Sally has been
“mentored by the best,” and pushes herself to paint regularly. Many
find her energy and
tenacity quite inspirational
and her color
blends masterful.
Her subject matters
are charming, emotional
and often very
clever. One of her
recently exhibited
art pieces depicts
iconic Florida snow
birds doing some
bird watching or
was it the other way around?
Sally’s latest artistic endeavor is lapidary
(shaping and polishing coral cabochons).
These gems have been found
in and around her family’s Million Souls
Mine. Raw materials and polished stones
can be purchased directly. Curious? Check it
out on Facebook (Million Souls Mine)!
