Literacy
The Early Learning Coalition of Manatee
County, Inc (ELC) was delighted to
distributed to Manatee County children during the
month of December 2017.
This important initiative was designed to promote a
love of reading and to raise awareness in parents
and families of how crucial it is to engage thier
children in early literacy activities.
The books were distributed to 147 preschools and
elementary schools that offer School Readiness
and VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) programs
through the ELC.
“For the sixth successive year our Literacy for the
Holidays program proved to be a huge success.
“We are already planning to make the December
2018 holiday season book giveaway an even
bigger event as we continue to highlight the
importance of literacy and reading with children
from an early age.”
AnnaMaria Carleton, ELC Early Literacy
Coordinator, added: “By giving our young readers
the opportunity for early literacy, we are raising
strong future leaders.”
was Becky McGowin, of First For Kids, who said:
“This is a fantastic annual event. The children love
getting books at any time of the year, but to see
their faces when they get them right before the
holidays is great.”
