Martin Marietta
Sweeps at CRMCA Driver
of the Year Awards
Leonard “Glenn” Brown, Mark Bernal and
Esad Kasum earned first-, second- and third-
place honors, respectively, at the Colorado Ready
Mixed Concrete Association’s (CRMCA) 2017 Driver
of the Year Awards.
Based in the Metro Denver area, Brown works
out of the Chambers Plant, Bernal out of the Rock
Creek Plant and Kasum out of the Quivas Plant.
Combined, the drivers have nearly 80 years of experience
behind the wheel of a mixer truck.
Tom Beadle, the project manager who led the
Rocky Mountain Division’s nomination efforts, said
the men have averaged between 2,700 and 3,000
hours of driving in each of the past three years.
Brown hasn’t had an on-the-job incident in nearly
four decades while Bernal and Kasum’s respective
safety streaks stand at 20 years and 9 years.
“We are extremely proud of Glenn, Mark and
Esad for sweeping the CRMCA Driver of the Year
Awards,” Beadle said. “In addition to exemplary
safety records, all three have proven dedication to
delivering quality concrete and customer service.
They are role models for new and experienced
drivers alike.”
The awards were presented in Colorado Springs
on Nov. 17 during the CRMCA’s Annual Conference.
A driver from a competing company tied
Bernal for second place. All winners received
financial awards as part of the recognition. ▼
Safety Representative
Designs New Mission, Vision,
Values T-Shirt
By fusing his notion of world class with the wings
of the company’s Guardian Angel program, Andy
Elizarraraz created the graphic selected as the
winner of the Mission, Vision and Values T-Shirt
Design Contest.
Based in the Cement and Southwest Ready Mix
Division, the senior safety representative said graphic
design has long been a hobby and that after learning
of the contest, he was confident he could create
“something cool based on the criteria.”
In addition to focusing on the idea of world class
and the Guardian Angel safety culture, Elizarraraz
incorporated Martin Marietta’s recently adopted
values into his design.
“Adding the words safety, integrity, excellence,
community and stewardship helps reinforce what we
all need to focus on if Martin Marietta is to become
world class,” he said. “If we continue to focus on
these things, we truly can provide the foundation
for our communities to grow.”
Talent Management Coordinator Rebecca Sperry
said more than 50 employees entered the contest,
some submitting designs sketched on notebook paper
while others provided more fully developed concepts.
“There were a few designs that really stood out
and depicted many of the ideas of Mission, Vision
and Values very well,” she said. “The winning
design incorporated all aspects of Mission, Vision
and Values. It truly is world class.”
The new t-shirt is available for purchase at the
