Make Your Application
Stand Out
I f you’re the parent of a high school senior, now is
the time to complete an Eligibility Survey to
determine if your child is a candidate for a Martin
Marietta Scholarship. All eligibility surveys must be
submitted by March 1.
Once that first step is complete and eligibility is
confirmed, your son or daughter must submit a
Scholarship Application by April 1. While the
application is fairly easy to complete, there are a few
things students can do to improve their chances of
earning a scholarship:
■ Let your personality shine. Don’t focus on
academics alone. Tell the judges what you’ve done
outside of the classroom and how those activities
reflect your character. Give them a story to remember.
■ Proofread your application materials
carefully. This lesson will prove valuable throughout
your life. No matter what you’re applying for – a
scholarship, an apartment, a job – proper spelling
and grammar will always be important.
■ Don’t assume anything. You can’t win if you
don’t apply. You may not think you have a chance,
but the judges may think otherwise.
■ Don’t wait until the last minute. In addition
to your parents’ eligibility survey and your scholarship
application, vital secondary school information,
including test scores, a transcript, a letter of recommendation
and a student evaluation form completed
by your guidance counselor, must also be submitted
before your application is considered complete.
The Martin Marietta Scholarship is awarded
annually to as many as eight students planning to
attend an accredited four-year college or university
in the fall after high school graduation. Each
scholarship is worth $3,500 a year and can be
renewed for up to four years to total $14,000.
Eligibility surveys and scholarship applications can

note that paper applications will no longer be
accepted.
