OPPOSITES ATTRACT
With one technique that adds layers to
a design and one that removes them,
how do you combine them into one
harmonious design? One of our seniorlevel
digitizers, Hannah, did just that!
Trapunto is a traditional technique that
adds extra layers of batting behind
certain elements to give them a raised,
puffy appearance. With cutwork, you
actually trim away fabric, creating an
opening in your design, which is then
finished with satin stitching and often
detailed with ladder stitches that give
the design some structure. Trapunto
requires at least two layers between
which you sandwich your extra batting.
However, with cutwork, you’re removing
layers. You can see the conflict here!
Hannah was able to combine these two
timeless techniques into one design,
creating a concept that is all new and
yet also a bit familiar.
The designs were taken to the next
level when Hannah consulted with our
seamstresses to develop an open-back
concept, allowing the blocks to then be
sewn into the jaw-dropping four part
centerpiece. We’re certain you’ll love her
unique twist on these two timeless classics.
