After both blocks are stitched together, use a ruler and a rotary
cutter to trim the edges so that the front and back sides are the
same size.

Fold the binding strip in half, length-wise and crease with an iron.
Then fold the outer edges to the center line, until you have a
folded strip that is about 1/2 of an inch thick. This will become your
trivet loop.

Next, pin your loop to the back of the trivet. These trivets are
meants to be on-point, so pin the loop in one of the corners as
shown.
Measure 7” from the edge of your 42” x 2.5” binding strip, and
cut.
Next, use your sewing machine to stitch the open edge of your
loop shut. Then stitch along the other long edge. Fold your loop
by holding the ends together.
Once you have completed attaching the loop, your trivet will look
something like this.
