Strategize
& Stabilize
The most common question our educators get when traveling
around the country: What kind of stabilizer do you use at Anita
Goodesign?
The answer isn’t an easy one because it depends on the project!
All stabilizers are created equal, but some are simply better
at certain jobs than others. Most stabilizers will work for many
different projects, but if you’re worried about picking the right
stabilizer, worry no more, because we’re going to cover the
Fantastic Four of stabilizers.
Our four favorite stabilizers are the perfect notions for every
quilter and embroiderer. Each has their own benefits and uses,
which makes machine embroidery easier than ever. If you are
ever in doubt for one of our projects, remember to check out our
notions page or pictured tutorial pages for instructions on which
stabilizer to use.
Regardless of stabilizer, there are a few key rules to follow in
regard to projects during hooping. For example, pay close
attention to the stitch count before starting your project. Our
rule of thumb is that if you have more than 40,000 stitches,
you will need to hoop an extra piece of stabilizer. This is also
true for free standing lace, however, it’s best if you use not just
one, but two pieces of wash away stabilizer regardless of stitch
count because the lace doesn’t have any fabric to strengthen
it, and is only relying on interlocking stitches to hold it together.
Remember that when in doubt, defer to our tutorial to finish
successful projects.
