CREATING YOUR
LACE DOILY
Lace doilies are iconic for their
intricate details and thread work, while
maintaining an air of sophistication and
simplicity in design. Often intended to
serve as dish or dining decor, these lace
doilies incorporate appliqué to create the
dominant shapes. Although doilies are
often seen in white or a shade of ivory,
don’t let that stop your creativity!
FABRICS
To pay homage to the original doily designs,
we stuck with a neutral palette of off-white,
incorporating muslin as our appliqué fabric.
THREADS
Since this design is free standing, be sure to
wind a few coordinating bobbins to match
your top thread. With lots of lace work, you’ll
need to replenish your bobbin a few times.
NOTIONS
Only the basic notions are needed since we
rinse this design. Keep a straight edge, rotary
cutter, and appliqué scissors handy.
