Finishing Up
Now it’s time to add the backing. Lay the quilt along the back
fabric, and use temporary fixative to hold the piece together.
Use a ruler and rotary cutter to trim away the excess fabric,
then create the binding. To calculate binding, it will have
a width of 2.5”, and the length will be the the length of the
perimeter of the quilt, plus 4”-6”.
Sew the binding in place 1/2” from the edge..
Use the stitch in the ditch method to sew the front of the quilt
to the back fabric. To stitch in the ditch, simply sew between
the seams vertically and horizontally. Use a matching or clear
thread.
Line the edge of the binding with the edge of the quilt, fold
the beginning back at a 45 degree angle and pin in place
along the edge.
Once you reach the corner, sew a 45 degree angle to the
corner.
