HOLOGRAPHIC
THREAD
Holographic thread is a plastic thread
that comes in lots of colors, and best
makes it shine in literally every color
of the rainbow!
We know what you’re thinking: Polyester thread is tried
and true, and I don’t have to worry about it breaking
all the time! You’re not wrong. We love the shine and
reliability of polyester thread too, but you can have your
thread cake AND eat it too (Disclaimer: don’t eat a
cake made of thread, it can’t be tasty).
WHY WE LOV E I T
Rainbows! Need we say more? We were
also very impressed with the tensile
strength of this thread. If you’ve seen it
on a shelf and were a little nervous to try
it, don’t be shy; it won’t bite!

T I PS
TENSION:
No thread is made the same and some threads need a tight grip
because they’re slippery and some need to be let loose like the
flower child that they are. Examples: Metallic thread likes less
tension because it’s easy to get coiled up, and the friction causes
it to break easily. We increased the tension on holographic thread
because it’s naturally slippery and needed a little extra grip.
BREAKAG E :
The number one complaint we get about metallic threads is how
much they break! They’re fickle, they can’t make up their mind.
We did some research and found some pretty easy fixes. One
thing to remember about metal is that it oxidizes over time (think
of the Statue of Liberty). Exposure to air and moisture affects the
chemical makeup of metal, and thus affects how your projects
stitch out. If you visit our Charlotte, NC headquarters, and open
our freezer, you will find lots and lots of metallic thread (and ice
cream). Freezing the thread slows down the oxidization process,
and allows the thread to have a much longer shelf life!
Another great tip is lubricating the thread. Polyester thread
is often lubricated already to give it that wonderful sheen.
Lubricating your metallic or other finicky threads with sewing
machine oil or a specialized thread lubricant will reduce friction
and help you on your merry way. Just make sure that you don’t
oversaturate your thread because it will seep into your fabric!
