INTRODUCTION
Trapunto, which is Italian for "to embroider,"
is a traditional quilting technique that
involves several layers of batting to create
a three-dimensional quilt block. The
decorative stitches on top serve to highlight
the raised areas to really make the design
pop. The traditional Trapunto method is to
stuff additional material through the back of
the quilt to give it that same raised look, but
at Anita Goodesign, we've come up with a
way to make it easier than ever.
Our Trapunto method uses triple the batting. Two
additional layers of batting are placed on top of
the base layer of batting, then they are tacked in
the shape of the design on top. Once the extra
batting is trimmed away, you're left with a raised
shape for the maximum Trapunto effect!
This collection uses decorative bean stitches to
highlight the lifted triple batting area.
The background of each block is quilted, so that
each block has a refined look once complete.
