ADDING THE POCKET
This fun 3D addition is actually stitched out in its own
hooping before you create it’s block base. Remember
when choosing thread colors and fabric placements to
plan ahead and look at the bigger picture of the pockets
side by side so you do not replicate too many materials
or thread placements that will be side-by-side. However
you build it, Noah and his plush friends will appreciate
their new pocket to sit out the storm!
COOL WITH CORK
We’ve been big fans of cork fabric lately, and this project
is just the thing to experiment with its cool textures! The
cork used in our pockets with this circular swirling in it is
known as natural root cork. We also used natural cork
with gold flecks in the main cabin areas of the ark. Try
using different textures or colors of cork for a truly diverse
look in your pocket’s “boards.”

TACTILE TEXTURES
The ark may have been made of wood and pitch, but
our rendition has all sorts of fun, natural-looking textures
and colors. We layered burlap over brown cotton in the
same appliqué steps to prevent seeing through its open
weave. This gives certain “boards” in the pockets a
fun-to-touch texture and rustic look to its construction.
Adding in spots of brown felt and other natural colored
materials will keep this tile scene as interesting to look at
as it is to play with!
