VISIT THE SEA TURTLE ADMIRAL
Admiral, pictured above, is a permanent resident at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. This young
loggerhead sea turtle, along with its siblings, was found in a hotel trash can, just days after hatching from its shell
in 2018. This is an illegal act. These marine animals are federally protected as they are an endangered species.
While its siblings were returned to the sea, Admiral was kept and is living at the marine science center where he/
she will be released back into the ocean at age two.
Tybee Island residents and visitors are getting ready for the innovative new facility. The new facility will be
located on the northern end of Tybee Island, near the Lighthouse. This new location will feature the permanent
marine residents, as well as new additions to the marine family.
