Once your excess batting is trimmed, place two layers of batting
over the squaring stitches. This will create the trapunto effect.

Trim away your excess batting. Trimming one layer of batting at a
time allows you to have a cleaner cut.

Lay your fabric over the block, right-side up, covering all the
trimmed batting. Be sure to leave 1⁄2” seam allowance on all
four sides.
Run the next machine step, which will tack down the two layers of
batting in the shape of the design.
Your quilt block should now look something like this. Now we’re
ready to place our fabric!
Run the tacking stitch to secure the base fabric down.
