Europe
The birthplace of the Renaissance era, Europe is one of the most
popular tourist destinations in the world. Though Europe does
not have the highest population of all the continents, it is the most
densely populated, which means that it’s easy to get from one
country to the next!
Austria and Southern Germany share a lot of cultural heritage with
one of the most well known being the classic Tracht, or traditional
costumes called Dirndl (worn by women), and Lederhosen (most
often worn by men). Just think: “The hills are alive with the sound
of music...!”. They once started as simple and practical outfits
worn by farmers in the Alpine regions, and quickly became
high fashion garments with silks, satins, and brocade fabric. For
casual Volksfests, or people’s festivals, light cottons are the norm,
however for traditional Bavarian weddings, expect the finest
fabrics with custom tailoring. Dirndl are worn all over the world by
German and Austrian descendants to festivals like Oktoberfest
and Weihnachtsmarkt, also known as Christmas Market.
