You will need 7/8 yd of fabric in order to cut your binding on a bias.
This will help create smooth laying binding around the scalloped
edges. PLEASE NOTE: The fabric used in these photos is for
demonstration, and has NOT been cut to 7/8 yd.

With the border fabric laying right side down, fold the edge up
(as shown) to create a bias. Using a steam iron, press with the
straight grain to avoid stretching on the bias.
Now, open the fold back out and use the crease as a guide to
mark off 4” wide strips. Cut the strips and discard the triangular
corners (or keep it for another project).
With right sides together (if your fabric is directional), lay two strips
of binding perpendicular to each other. Use pins to secure in place
as shown.
To create the binding, stitch two strips together at a 45 degree
angle using regular sewing thread (shown in black).
Butterfly press all of the seams open with an iron.
