Proceed to run the tacking stitch for the base fabric using a
matching thread color.

Now, run the placement stitch for the first standard appliqué.

Run the tacking stitch for the appliqué in a matching thread tone.
Once secured, use scissors to trim away the excess fabric, cutting
close to the stitches and ensuring to leave a 1/2” seam allowance
on any fabric extending outside of the batting.
Take a piece of appliqué and place it right side up over the
placement stitches.
NOTE: For designs with thick satin stitches, we recommend
backing your cottons with a fusible interfacing like we did here.
Now, use scissors to trim away the excess appliqué material.
