Take a piece of base fabric and lay it right side up over the
placement stitches, covering them entirely. Be sure to have
enough fabric for a 1⁄2” seam allowance extending outside of
the block.

Using scissors, trim away the excess base fabric from the tacking
stitches, being sure to leave a 1⁄2” of fabric extending above and
below your block.
Using a matching thread color, continue to run the tacking stitch
for the center base fabric.
Once trimmed, your block should look something like this. Run
the next step, which will be the placement stitches for the
border fabrics.

Place the border fabrics right side up over the placement stitches,
leaving enough fabric for a 1⁄2” seam allowance on all sides.
Run the tacking stitch for the border fabrics in a coordinating
thread color.
