Getting Started
INTRODUCING MATERIALS AND TOOLS
For those interested in turning their embroidered creations into artwork, this first
volume of Stephen Wilson’s Signature Series is the perfect starting point. This book has
been broken down into all of the main techniques you will learn. Each section will guide
you through the creation of each piece, as well as touch on some of Wilson's personal
preferences and artistic style. By reading along and adding in your own touches to these
finished works, you will learn how to turn basic elements into stunning pieces of art
that can be presented both individually and collectively in your home.
Influences from the fashion industry combined with Wilson's personal artistic
expression will come together collectively to guide you through creating unique pieces
that are sure to stun anyone who sees them. To create the various art pieces seen in
this book, you will need a few key essentials on hand. For example, a high-quality card
stock, in printed and solid variations, can act as a dimensional addition or even as a
base material for your art pieces. If you own a cutting machine, there are SVG cut files
provided for a variety of butterflies and other shapes, but a good pair of scissors can
serve just as well. Finally, with embroidery comes a need for fabric and thread. Once
you've established your desired color palette or accenting tones, you can better collect
your materials for each project.
