Stitching Out Lace Flowers
FREESTANDING FLORALS MADE EASY
Creating these small flowers is certainly one of the simpler projects throughout this
series. Whenever working with a water-soluble stabilizer, it is best practice to double
up with two pieces together in the hoop before starting the design. This extra stabilizer
layer provides a surface for the design to stitch and lock onto while creating the
freestanding style, and once rinsed will provide better results in the finished flowers.
Another feature of these various flowers comes in how Wilson set up the digitizing;
with multiple flower styles to choose from, each design file for the lace flowers promises
to stitch out multiples, separated into a variety of color steps, to allow freedom in
changing out thread colors. Using your color story for inspiration, you can easily
pull thread colors to tie in design elements or add in pops of accenting tones to
unify various pieces in your finished works. Since these designs are freestanding, it is
important to remember that if your lace elements will be seen on both sides to wind
a coordinating bobbin for color changes to create a clean finish.
To present the lace flowers on a shape, you will need to have a paper cut shape
already selected and trimmed out, whether by hand or using the SVG files provided.
