Creating a Floral Covered Shape
APPLYING LACE FLOWERS TO CARD STOCK
Once you have created an abundance of lace flowers, you can use them to add
further depth, intrigue and color to other works in this series. Wilson's favorite
way to incorporate the little lace elements is applying them to the paper cut out
shapes. With the included SVG cut files, your design options range from every
letter of the alphabet to common shapes like stars, hearts, and even a butterfly.
In order to use the lace flowers on these shapes, you first need to have have
paper cut out elements already prepared. For further instruction on how to
create these, please reference back to the Using the Paper Cut Files instructions.
Once your paper cut shapes have been created, adding the lace flowers is as
easy as applying glue. The beauty of freestanding embroidery is in its ability
to be customized or altered to fit shapes with a quick snip of scissors. In the
pages to come, you will see how Wilson personally uses these lace flowers in a
variety of blue hues to embellish the paper cut out dress shape. It is important
to remember overlapping the flowers will likely be necessary to cover the white
space entirely. Pay attention to clusters of light or dark flowers to avoid too
much contrast in one particular area of the shape.
