Stitching Out Butterflies
APPLICATION ONTO VARIOUS BACKGROUNDS
Freestanding butterflies have flitted their way into Wilson's artistic works for
years, acting as a signature element common in his explorative works, both past
and present. The embroidered marvels are created with thousands of stitches
layering to mimic the subtle variances of their real-life counterparts, though
stitching them out is easier than it looks.
Each butterfly in this series will come in three size options, A being the largest
and C the smallest. Before the decorative stitching starts, each butterfly has been
specially digitized to provide a placement stitch and tacking stitch in order to lay
a base material. As with the tapestries in this series, Wilson recommends a durable
material that will perform well under high stitch counts, and once again employs
STAHLS' Poly-TWILL™ as the choice material for his butterflies.
