Mounting Drip Designs
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
The real magic in this unique technique development is the stunning drip-like
effect they create when the deconstructing begins. Inspired by the pooling of Ian
Davenport's painted works, Wilson set forth to replicate the swirling puddles in
embroidery stitches, and now you can mimic this look at home.
Upon the completion of your drip design stitching out, you will need to prepare
a solution of hot water for rinsing the lower portion of the design. Unlike the
standard freestanding embroidery designs you may have rinsed out of stabilizer
before, these works of art should only be treated with hot water, avoiding any
additional chemicals or soaps as to not ruin the materials the drip design is stitched
onto. After rinsing the design and gently pulling the stitches out to where you
like, you will need to let the design fully dry before continuing on to mounting
the piece onto a display board or firm card stock for framing. Use these step by
step instructions to guide you through the deconstruction and mounting process.
