Flat Mounting
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
A flat mount frame works great if you have thin, traditional style picture frames.
This framing proves the best with the entirely embroidered pieces such as the
tapestries and embroidered backgrounds, however, if adding any dimensional
elements, you will have to reconsider this frame style. Since the embroidered piece
will sit directly behind the frame’s glass, much as a framed photograph, there will
be no room in the frame for those dimensional additions. If your project plan only
calls for photographs for example, the standard flat frame mounting will work
perfectly, otherwise, continue on to the Dimensional Mounting instructions.
When working with his embroidered art pieces, Wilson notes the use of a rotary
cutter or scissors for trimming the edges. When using a flat frame for displaying
these pieces, the frames will generally include a mat frame, which may require
additional trimming down if not provided in a suitable size. Once the embroidery
gets trimmed, affixing it to a mat board will help prevent any puckering or rippling
with time. No matter the frame you choose to use with your pieces, always be
sure to mount the finished work on a stable surface like a mat board.
