A. Begin with your embroidered
piece, trimmed down and
pressed flat, as well as a piece
of foam core, cut around ½"
smaller than the embroidered
piece to frame.
B. Use a hot glue gun to add glue
to back of the embroidery,
placing a line of glue along
each edge as well as in the
center of the design.
C. Use your hands to press the
embroidery to the foam core,
smoothing out any ripples.
D. Now, take the foam core
mounted piece and center it
against your mat board. You
may need to trim the mat
board down to fit within the
frame.
E. Using a hot glue gun, add
dots of hot glue to the back
of the foam core-mounted
embroidery in each corner.
F. Use a ruler to center the
mounted embroidery over the
mat board, and once centered,
press in place.
G. You should end up with about
a 1" mat border around the
entire piece. Notice how the
embroidery now sits ¼" higher
than the background to allow it
to "float."
H. You can now add your
dimensional additions, like
butterflies. Add as many or
as few as you prefer, though
Wilson comments 2 - 3 is
usually enough, strategically
placing them to look as if they
landed on the piece.
I. Secure to the finished work
with a bit of hot glue to the
center of the butterfly and
press onto the embroidery.
Don't put glue directly on the
wings, but rather just the body,
as the wings should appear to
lift off of the background.
