S. Once the lining has been
attached to the side panels,
your project should look
something like this.
T. Now, following the edge of the
embroidery along the top of
the bag, stitch the lining and
the bag's outer shell together,
using the embroidered design's
outer edges near the seam
allowance as your guideline
(also shown in white).
U. It is now time to create the
D ring tabs for your bag's
strap. Take one of the 1" x
2¼" cuts of twill and place
a ½" strip of double sided
fusible web down the middle.
Use a steam iron to fold and
press each side in towards the
middle to create clean edges.
V. Insert the tab you've created
through the D rings and fold
in half. They should now look
something like this. You can
choose to pin or clip the tab
in place until sewn to keep
the rings on.
W. Secure the tabs by sewing
about ¼" from the raw edge.
X. Align your bag's hardware to
the stitched line across the
top of the bag's front and
back panels. Use a rotary
cutter and ruler to trim away
the excess fabric at the top
to match the size of your bag
hardware (see dashed black).
Y. Stitch a few straight rows
along the top raw edge of the
bag to create a flattened seam
allowance that will be fed
into the hardware's channel.
Z. You can now attach the D ring
tabs to top inside edges of the
bag, about 1" in from the end
and in opposing corners, as
depicted in the image.
AA. Transfer the bag to your
sewing machine and sew
on the two D ring tabs,
following existing stitch lines
for a clean finish.
