J. Fold the binding again, and
align the fold with the raw
edges of the seam you just
sewed. Align the edges of the
unstitched binding with the
next edge of the tapestry. Pin
in place.
K. Continue sewing, repeating
steps G-I for the remaining
corners.
L. When you return to the
starting point, overlap
the binding by 2½" to
conceal the start and stop.
Your tapestry should look
something like this with the
binding on the front.
M. Use an iron to press the seams
of the binding away from
the front of the tapestry. This
will ensure the edges are flush
with the design once turned,
and prevents any bumps.
N. Again, use a warm iron to press
the binding toward the back
of the tapestry and ensure the
strips are laying flat. Fold the
corners to create a miter. Since
this piece will be within a
frame, there is no need to stitch
the binding any further.
O. Your tapestry now has a clean,
bound edge all around, and
should look like this. You are
now ready to create the rest of
the tray.
P. Place the tapestry face down
into the frame so that it is
flush with the front glass. Be
sure the binding strips remain
folded taut. Insert and attach
the frame backing.
Q. Attach the handles to the tray
by screwing them into the
previously drilled holes. Be
sure not to over-tighten the
hardware, as you do not want
to crack the glass within the
frame.
R. Your Tapestry Tray is now
complete and ready to serve
with flair!
