Stitching Out a Tapestry
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Just as with the tapestries seen in the studio, the designs included in this series
were hand digitized by Wilson to incorporate thousands of stitch segments,
recreating the luscious and organic shapes seen in the original artwork. With the
included tapestry designs, patterns like damasks, toiles, and even sinuous florals
are recreated in the colorway of your choosing. Keep in mind your overarching
theme or dominant thread tones, working to create individual pieces that can
work cohesively as a whole.
Taking the high stitch counts into consideration, it is important to keep in mind
the base fabric needed for these tapestries should be durable. The best results
come from using two layers of a cut away no-show mesh stabilizer paired with
Stahls' Poly-TWILL™ Fabric. This 100% polyester material holds up to the
heavy stitching, providing an ideal foundation for your embroidered artwork.
Consequently, with many stitches comes a lot of bobbin, so be sure to have either
a spool of bobbin thread to replenish or plenty of prewounds on hand.
