Place your base fabric over the placement stitch, ensuring
there is at least ½” seam allowance on any edges of the stitch
that are touching stabilizer.

Then, trim away the excess fabric close to the tacking stitch,
leaving the ½” seam allowance on the outer edges of the
tacking stitch.

Next, run the placement stitch for the first piece of your folded
fabric border.
Run the tacking stitch to secure the base fabric in place.
Your trimmed base fabric should look something like this.
Then, place your border fabric right side down over the stitch line
that touches the edge of the base fabric, as shown above. Be
sure that the fabric overlaps the placement line by at least ¼”.
