We used AP-FFQB4 as an example of
how the design images will be annotated.
Follow the star and numbers labeled
on each design in conjunction with your
numbered steps for a perfectly folded
quilt block every time!
Since you’ve mastered folded fabric borders in your Large
Motif Blocks, transferring those skills to Folded Fabric Quilt
Blocks is easy as pie! Folded Fabric follows the same three
step process highlighted in the Anatomy of the Design page of
the Motif Blocks section, with a bit of a twist.
Each folded fabric block features what we call a “cornerstone”
annotated for each block using a star like the one shown
above. The cornerstone fabric is the first fabric that you place,
and is done using the two step appliqué process. Following

Secondary Fabrics
the cornerstone is the rest of your folded fabric pieces, also
called secondary fabric. To see the folded fabric technique in
action, just follow the step-by-step pictures on the following
pages. The order in which you will place your folded fabric will
be labeled on the designs pages in a similar manner to what
you see above. As you are placing your folded fabric, a good
note to keep in mind is that you will always be folding the fabric
away from the last fabric that was placed. This creates a
beautiful, seamless quilt top with no raw edges.
