With the raw edge tucked inside, fold the left and right sides
of the strip to line back up with the center crease. The ruler in
this image is just to hold the fabric in place.

Continue sewing down the edge of the strip to secure the
raw edge within the tie. Reference steps A - I to complete a
second tie for your placemat.
Fold it in half along the center crease. The ruler in this image

At this point, you should have two ties. Each tie should have
one raw edge and one finished edge. Pin both raw edges to
the seam allowance on the left side of the placemat. If pinned
correctly, your project should look like this.
Tuck the finished edges of the ties into the pocket so they
don’t come loose during the remainder of the project. Follow

onto your placemat.
