EXTERIOR CONSTRUCTION
PI C N I C BASKE T
A B
Take the first block and fold it face down over the second,
lining them up at the tacking stitches. You will join these
blocks the same way you did your pocket blocks in the last
set of steps (straight stitch along the tacking lines, open up,
and steam press their seams open).
We will now begin putting together the first side panel
of the picnic basket’s exterior. To do this, gather 3 of the
background blocks you stitched (AP-BQB02) to begin
piecing them together.
C D
Now, take your finished exterior pocket and place it right side
facing up over the sewn side panel. Once lined up, pin in
place to secure the layers.
Straight stitch in the ditch of the pocket blocks to secure the
pocket to the basket panel, stopping stitching at the yellow
binding.
E F
Now, gather the other 6 background blocks, join them
referencing step B if needed, then lay them out as shown to
prepare the bottom and remaining side of the basket.
Take the panel without the pocket and fold it to lay face
down over the panel in the center, lining up the tacking
stitches along the right side. Sew along the line shown.
