FINISHING STEPS
PI C N I C BASKE T
A B
Use pins to secure the interior and exterior layers along the
top edge.
To begin finishing the picnic basket, insert the interior you
constructed into the exterior body so that wrong sides
are together.
C D
Now you will create the binding and handles for your basket.
Cut a piece of binding fabric measuring 21⁄2" x 86" and set
this aside for now. For the handles, cut two strips of fabric
measuring 8" x 25" and two pieces of batting at 31⁄4" x 25".
Take one of the strips for the handles and fold in half
lengthwise and pin in place.
E F
Stitch along the raw edges of the pinned strip sewing at a 1⁄2"
seam allowance.
Now, turn the handle right side out by feeding the channel
through itself to flip it, then press flat with an iron. TIP: To
help with the turning of the long channels, we used a
yardstick gently pushed through!
