Anatomy of the Design
For the detail blocks in this collection, we wanted to get
up-close and personal with the animals we’re showcasing
on Anita’s Farm. Each block features a zoomed in view of
the animals, using appliqués to block in the main colors, then
stitching in the various shades of color using lighter and
darker threads.
Each detail block also features a denim border that frames
the animals in a sea of indigo. The borders are done using
the folded fabric border technique. While it might seem
tough at first, it’s really simple as long as you follow a
three-machine-step process for each border piece. First,
run the placement stitch for the border piece to place your
fabric. Second, run the folding stitch to fold the fabric. Then
third, run the tacking stitch to secure the folded fabric
border piece to your quilt block. The block above shows the
numbers that correspond with the order in which the folded
fabric borders are placed. The images of the designs on the
pages following the step by step pictures will be annotated
in the same manner, taking the guess work out of what
comes next for you!
