With your machine set to a small stitch length, begin sewing
a 1/2” seam from the edge of the fabric to the pencil mark. Be
sure to lock stitch at the start and also when your reach
the mark.

Again, with the needle down, change the stitch length back
to a short stitch and finish sewing the seam. Remember to
lock stitch at the beginning of the pencil mark and end of the
seam. Repeat steps M-O for the other pinned side.

Next, lightly press open the 2 seams.
With the needle down at the pencil mark, adjust the stitch
length to a long basting stitch. Continue sewing a basting
stitch until your reach the pencil mark 5⁄8” from the end of the
seam.
Your seams should look something like this on both ends.
Note the difference in stitch length between the two areas.
Use steam a seam as directed to keep the seam open.
