A FRENCH INFLUENCE. Toile, French for linen cloth, is a
shortened variation of the original term toile de Jouy, which translates
to linen or cloth from the town of Jouy-en-Josas located in the suburbs
of Paris. Known for idyllic images of French countrysides or romantic
illustrations, these designs are often done on a canvas or linen.
They are usually created as single-color scenes of red, blue or black
linework and shading. We released this month’s Embroidery collection,
Cherub Toile, as a fun nod to the French influence of these single-hued
heavenly prints!
DIVINE D. I .Y. French influence in fashion and interior design
alike has stayed in the headlines for major labels, and now you can
bring a touch of this style to your home! This month’s classic Cherub
Toile evokes sophistication and charm. By repeating designs across a
large piece of canvas, cotton, or sturdy linen, you’ll be able to create
beautiful toile in the colors of your choice, then craft it into any project,
like the throw pillow below!

other fun projects! This simple design idea can
make a great fabric for projects like tote bags,
stitched in a set of frames, or even zipper bags!
