Run the tacking stitch step for the base fabric.

Now, since we will be adding border fabrics to the block
shortly, use scissors to trim away any excess base fabric from
around the tacking stitch line.
Once trimmed, your block will look like this.

Follow your designs numbered machine steps to continue
any standard embroidery in the design, stopping once you
have ran the first placement stitch for a standard appliqué.
Take a piece of appliqué fabric and place it right side facing
up over the placement stitch lines, being sure to cover them
on all sides.
Take a piece of base fabric and lay it right side facing up
over the placement stitches, covering them on all sides.
