Once trimmed, your design should look something like this.
Use a sharp pair of scissors to trim away the excess batting
from the batting’s tacking stitch.

Place base fabric right side up over the design, being sure
there is enough extra fabric to extend over the batting by at
least 1⁄2” on all sides.
Run the next machine step, which is the tacking stitch that
secures the base fabric to the design.
NOTE: Do not trim! There should be at least a 1⁄2” seam
allowance on all four sides of the quilt block.
