REVERSING THE
PROCESS
Creating a puffed or dimensional effect in embroidery
can prove to be challenging, especially when a needle
stitches thread down to secure it. The usual effect given
by embroidery machines is flat stitching, often creating
the dimension in the design’s shading. Now, we wanted
to take these sweet animals and create a fun project that
promises a finished piece at the end of the project while
also teaching you how to create additional dimension below
the embroidery. Through our unique reverse trapunto
technique, each animal brooch will be created with two
file parts that allow additional batting to be added. The end
results are dimensional, and slightly “puffed” freestanding
brooches, perfect for pinning on all sorts of garments.
A series of lush satin stitches will help
conceal the hidden batting layers as
each design finishes, making these
brooches truly freestanding!
Easily convert your new freestanding
animals into brooches! Simply use a hot
glue gun and pin backs to add a pin on
back of the finished designs.
Each animal has been digitized to
include 2 layers of batting concealed
within the A and B files, which creates
the “puffed” and dimensional look!
