indeterminate length. At that point, I started sewing all the
nursery décor and doing “a bit” of baby shopping. We are
so blessed that they, as well as our other daughter and sonin
law, are local, so I have been able to be involved in the
care of that grandchild, who by the way, is a gorgeous, witty,
intelligent little girl named Gracie! (Do I sound biased?)
Besides In the Hoop projects, what are some of your
other hobbies? When I was designing, I was very busy
with my personal challenge of dreaming up a project every
month, designing and testing it, photographing and writing
the tutorial, and then sending it off to Anita Goodesign for
them to do the packaging. So what had started as a hobby
had taken control of most of my waking hours, leaving little
room for anything else other than my family (husband and
two wonderful daughters) and my actual profession, which
was a high school math teacher. I retired from teaching in
2012. Now that I have some time to indulge myself, I have
been trying my hand at quilting and gearing up to attempt
free motion. All those things, of course, take a back seat to
Gracie time!
What are your future plans, whether business or pleasure?
Every now and then I get an idea for a possible project and
file it away for the time that I feel is right to get back in the
saddle, but I have no specific time table. My husband wants
us to start traveling once it is deemed safe to do so, and I
also have some arthritis-related matters that I am going to
have to deal with, unfortunately. But I am hoping BIG TIME
for Gracie to get some family companions, and of course that
will mean more grandma-ing!
Do you have any advice, tips, or tricks you’ve been given
that you’d want to share with fellow embroiderers? There
is one comment in particular that I remember Steve passing
along to me, and I feel it puts my work, as well as the Anita
Goodesign’s products, into perspective. He said that any
project I designed should be presented in such a way that
if a customer was buying their first embroidery machine and
happened to see the project on a shop wall, she (or he!)
should be able to take the pack home and be successful. I did
my best with my designs, photography, and tutorials to make
that the case, and I feel the quality of the Anita Goodesign
products demonstrate that same philosophy.
