COLOR-WASHED FLORALS
BY: LINDSEY GRIFFIN
COLOR-WASHED WONDERS
Color-washing in the world of paint typically involves using paint that has been
thinned out with a glaze to create a subtle hue of color on furniture, walls,
and other items. We took this idea of gentle coloration and put it towards
this embroidery collection. Each design features a bean stitched floral motif
with colored elements lightly stitched underneath. The colorful shading won’t
necessarily stay inside the lines of the motif, varying in density to give the
appropriate color-washed effect.
OUR COLOR INSPIRATION
We selected some fun, floral-inspired shades of Madeira’s Frosted Matte
embroidery threads for these designs. This collection would be great merged
onto the blank block for a 4x4 quilt, so we’ve alternated the base fabric to create
a checkerboard style quilt. Since these embroidery designs won’t come joined to
the quilt block file, you can use them to embellish anything, such as a backpack,
zippered bag, or a garment!
