SHINE A LIGHT WHEN IT'S GRAY OUT
The next series I released was titled Shine a Light When It’s Gray Out, and butterflies played a very dominant
role throughout each work. An integral part of this series is the backgrounds themselves: turbulent,
swirling acrylics that almost project the butterflies directly off of the canvas. Lots of experimentation
with mediums went into achieving this look. Oil paints were mixed with raw pigments and applied
with a multitude of traditional and untraditional painting tools. Most of the oil works also include
diamond dust in their mixture, as well as a high gloss varnish. I wanted the finished pieces to have a
slick, oily appearance once completed. All of the pigments used in my artwork are custom-formulated
and blended directly in my studio, creating unique mixtures of color and effect.
